Mario Power Tennis, feat. New Play Controls
For long-time Mario fans, it may be odd to see a remake of a classic Mario game hit the stores again. Well, while the game itself is similar, the platform as well as controls are completely different. The game is for the Nintendo Wii, and enables you to play against others, both online and locally.

Of course since the game is a remake it’s not exactly original. However, it does have some differences from the original game. The main difference is probably its graphics, which are very good for the Wii, and have been received very well by players and critics alike. Unfortunately, what this game offers in graphical prowess is counterbalanced with poor control and accuracy.
Players of all ages have noticed a significant amount of difficulty in controlling their characters in Mario Power Tennis. The controls are sloppy, and like so many other Wii games, you are better off simply wiggling the remote around, rather than trying to actually perform the proper motions. Some say that this flaw is not a big deal, but if you’re looking for an enjoyable, realistic tennis experience, then Mario Power Tennis is probably not your best choice.
That’s not to say it isn’t fun, however. Many GameCube players who have played the original say that the new Wii version of the game is even more enjoyable than the old version, and there have been quite a few positive reviews out for the game. However, it didn’t do nearly as well as its predecessor, which got in the high 80-90 percent on most reviews. The new version was not received so well, and generally got reviews of about 60-70 percent.
Oddly enough, Nintendo’s New Play Control series aims to remake classic GameCube games, and improve on the game play and controls. Unfortunately their goal didn’t quite become a reality with this most recent release, most likely due to rushed development and insufficient funding. Most people say that they prefer Nintendo’s own Wii Sports Tennis over the new Mario Power Tennis.
